LITURGICAL MINISTRIES (OLSOS)

Every parish needs help in creating beautiful and meaningful liturgy. If you have a talent or the time, we hope you will volunteer.
Altar Boys
Servers assist the priest by taking responsibility for many of the details in the preparation of the altar and vessels during Mass and other special celebrations during the liturgical year, like funerals and weddings. Those boys who have completed 3rd grade should apply to become altar servers. Parents need to contact the Parish Office.
Lectors
Lectors proclaim the Word of God in the midst of the assembly of the people of God. Lectors carry out this vital function during the celebration of the Eucharist, sacraments and other rites. Training is provided through the Pastoral Staff. Contact Deacon Patrick if interested.
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion to the Homebound
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion bring Holy Communion to our many homebound parishioners. Candidates must be baptized, confirmed and practicing Catholics in this parish, at least 21 years of age and in good standing with the Church. Training is provided. If you have an interest in this ministry, please contact Roseanne Murphy through the parish office.
Sacristans
The sacristans at Our Lady Star of the Sea undertake the care of the sacristy, laying out the liturgical vestments, and assisting with anything else, such as chalices, ciboria, cruets, oil, candles, incense, altar lines, etc, needed for the celebration of Mass, Benediction, and other liturgical events. They ensure that everything necessary is available and in proper order.

Anyone interested in participating in this ministry must be an active member of the parish and have received the Sacrament of Confirmation. Contact Deacon Patrick in the Parish Office.
Ushers
Ushers assist at the Sunday liturgies by greeting and seating people, taking up the collections, assisting the congregation at Communion and handing out the parish bulletin. To volunteer, contact Deacon Patrick through the Parish Office.
Sacred Music at the Parish
“The musical tradition of the universal Church is a treasure of inestimable value, greater even than that of any other art.”
Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy #112
The music heard at Masses and at other services aim to bring the faithful closer to Christ in a reverent and prayerful way while acknowledging the musical traditions and guidelines provided by Holy Mother Church. While many traditional and beloved hymns are sung at every Mass, the Proper of the Mass (the Introit, Offertory, and Communion antiphon) takes priority. These texts, proper to the specific Mass celebrated, have been chanted and prayed by the Church for centuries.
